Enhancing Payment Security & User Experience with MicroBilt ACH Verification

We are thrilled to announce a major enhancement to our Customer Web Portal (CWP) payment experience! As part of our commitment to providing secure, efficient, and seamless payment processing, we are transitioning from Plaid to MicroBilt ACH Verification for bank account validation. This upgrade eliminates the need to link a financial institution to a utility bill pay user account while improving reliability and security.

Why the Change? Customer Feedback Matters

This transition is a direct response to customer feedback regarding our previous partner, Plaid. Customers expressed frustration over receiving unexpected bills from Plaid, making it difficult to budget their monthly expenses. With MicroBilt, we are addressing these concerns by providing a completely free verification service, ensuring transparency and predictability in the payment process.

Key Highlights of the Update

1. Real-Time Database Validation

MicroBilt’s RVD (Real-Time Verification Database) performs rigorous validation on every ACH transaction, reducing payment failures and ensuring compliance. The Customer Web Portal (CWP) receives real-time verification responses, confirming that the entered bank account information is valid.

2. Updated Payment Portal Flow

  • Customers will now select the E-check or Scheduled ACH Payment Method from the Make Payment screen.

  • Guest Pay transactions (processed from the login page) will not support E-check payments due to mandated verification requirements.

  • Customers must log into their CWP account to use the E-check tender method.

3. Seamless Recurring ACH Sign-Up

  • MicroBilt will be fully integrated to validate ACH Bank Draft sign-ups in the Customer Web Portal.

  • Customers enrolling in recurring ACH drafts will undergo instant verification to ensure bank details are accurate.

4. Making a Payment – Simplified and Secure

  • Customers will enter:

    • The account holder’s name

    • The bank routing number

    • The bank account number

  • Clicking the PAY or CONFIRM button will trigger automatic validation, alerting users to any errors in real time.

5. Real-Time Error Handling

MicroBilt’s system detects and notifies users of potential errors, including:

  • Invalid routing numbers

  • Invalid bank account numbers

  • Suspicious account formats

  • Insufficient transaction history

6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Existing recurring ACH Drafts will remain unaffected by this transition.

  • Customers already enrolled in ACH Drafts do not need to re-enroll.

  • To process E-check transactions, customers must register and log in to their CWP account.
